Andrew J. Brauer, O.D.
Dr. Andrew Brauer joined Elgin Family Eye Care in 2015. Originally from central Illinois, Dr. Brauer earned degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He now makes his home in Wheaton with his wife (Nicole), daughter (Lily), and black lab (Thunder).
Dr. Brauer is a comprehensive optometrist but particularly enjoys fitting contact lenses and practicing myopia control. He believes that virtually anyone can achieve clear, comfortable vision with contact lenses, including those who “have tried everything” at other clinics. Dr. Brauer keeps up with new lens technology and also pays special attention to the unique characteristics of your eyes- both of which are critical to success and both of which, unfortunately, are often overlooked. Dr. Brauer uses a full range of mainstream and custom contact lenses to fit the needs of each individual patient. His other interest, myopia control, refers to treatments that slow a child’s nearsightedness (myopia) getting worse over time. The concept of myopia control has been around for a long time, but recent advances in research and technology have brought about treatments that are much more effective than were previously available.. Dr. Brauer recognizes that your (and your child’s) prescription is more than just a number. People who are very nearsighted have lower quality of life related to vision, typically face higher costs for glasses, and are much more likely to have serious eye health problems such as retinal detachments and macular degeneration. Dr. Brauer feels strongly that the time and energy invested on myopia management during youth can have dramatic and far-reaching lifelong benefits.
Susan M. Penner, O.D.
Dr. Susan M. Penner, O.D. earned her optometry degree with honors from Indiana University in 1987. Dr. Penner was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometry Honor Society and earned the Irvin M. Borish Optometry Award and the Bausch & Lomb Practice Initiation Award

Dr. Penner is intimately involved in the management of Elgin Family Eye Care, but sees patients on a daily basis at EyeCare Dimensions in Byron, IL. For more information about that office, go to eyecaredimensions.com.
